Scalp Exercise Questions and Jowls question

Post by happydc »

Hi Everyone,

I've been a long-time fan of Tom's for years. He's just cool, speaks wonderfully, very charismatic. And of course, his face is amazing. Having said that, I purchased the program back 2014 or 2013 (I think) and yesterday I purchased the streaming program. I only now decided to get moving (I turned 44). I've been doing facial exercises on and off for years, never stuck with anything but believe they've made me look better.

I went back to Tom's exercises because out of all the programs I've done, I really believe in his the most. They make sense, I can feel them working and ... look at Tom!

1) Regarding the scalp exercises, I can move the scalp muscles at the back of my neck/head, I believe those are the correct ones? If I touch the point where head meets neck, I can feel them moving. However, when I do that, the front of my neck also tenses a bit. I don't know if I'm doing these correctly.

I still haven't managed to move both forehead muscles and back of scalp muscles together. I suppose it's a process.

2) Of all the exercises Tom's program, which one would work for marionette lines and jowls?

I've added a photo I took last week and highlighted the part where I can see a marionette line (my mom has them, so I'm headed there).

Any insight, I'd really appreciate it!

I'm going to write a two part piece tomorrow. The first part will be about the scalp exercise. I think what I have to say will help you with this exercise. The second part will be about that little indentation next to your lip.

I'm glad you included a large photo. That really helps.

It's hard to tell if you are doing the scalp exercise right from your description. The alternating contraction of the frontalis muscles at the front of the head and the occipitalis muscles at the back of the head should be smooth: the contraction of one muscle should relax the contraction of the other muscle. This exercise if it is correctly done will tone-up many muscles of the upper face, including the very small muscles under your upper eyelids which are just beginning to loosen a bit.

You wrote, "However, when I do that, the front of my neck also tenses a bit." The front of my neck used to tense-up too when I first began to do the exercise. But once I "isolated" the occipitalis muscle and worked only that muscle when I pulled back my scalp, the tension in my neck disappeared. The neck muscles should not be contracted when doing the scalp exercise.

That little indentation next to your lip which you encircled is not a marionette line. It's a small flaw in the facial muscle under the skin. In my opinion, you will not be able to erase that. You don't like it but I do. Angie Dickinson, the actress, has that same "flaw."

I think you have an attractive face, and it's the kind of face which will stay attractive.

Thank you so much Tom!
I've continued doing the exercises, I do them 3-4 times a week. And I've got faith that I'll master the scalp exercise.

I'm going to be doing these for the rest of my life, so thank you so much for your encouragement and insight!

Oh and Angie Dickinson, beautiful lady!
