hello again. a lipsy query this time, which applies to the other facial muscles too in principle. the mouth exercise on your site - i haven't been doing it diligently and daily as i have with the scalp exercises and some of the carole maggio ones i've also been following. i've spent quite a lot of time on the face exercises, and my first priority was sorting out the unveiling of my long-forgotten eye-sockets, so i didn't feel i could justify putting a lot of time in elsewhere. my brows are well on the up now though, and i'm thinking a bit more about how my lips might benefit. i think they may have plumped up a little from their small daily exertions included in my routine. i've noticed that on the few times i've tried your mouth exercise, immediately after my lips have appeared sort of wider and more rolled outwards - essentially fuller - until the muscles relax back down again. to what extent can the general rules of body building be applied here? i'm not planning to hang dumbells from my mouth, lol, but what do you reckon are the possibilities and limitations with some real hard effort? now that i've put some face-lift surgeons out of a job, are the botox people going to be panicking next? |

I think Botox people are already panicking. I mean, does Tom look like he needs their services? That's one customer off their list; next! Amy, I'd discourage you from getting too aggressive or gung-ho with exercising your face, only because I've read of people having less than great results from that. I tend to follow the direction of whatever program I'm doing and since Tom doesn't say to get that aggressive, I would not do it. After all, it is seeing his results that encouraged us to get started on his program in the first place, isn't it? So why change anything? I suspect that those who swear that face exercises make one look older or age faster are people who've witnessed the results of someone who got over-enthusiastic with their training and set things out of balance. So I say just follow the leader, and you probably won't risk getting any problems from the program. |

Amy K: "i'd still like to know about how the general principle of muscle building applied to facial muscles though." If you work the facial muscles using the exercises that I and others advocate, the muscles will become toned-up and strong, but they will not become noticeably larger. The lips of women may look and feel fuller after doing mouth exercises. This is because they are "pumped up" with a surge of blood in lip tissue. The occipitalis muscles at the back of the head will definitely get larger after you gain control of them. But the facial muscles in general will not get larger with exercise; they will stay firm and sag-proof though. |
