Conspicuous lack of these I've noticed. I'm going to have a rummage through the computer and see what I can come up with over the next few days. Anyone care to join me?

I think most people are uneasy about having their photos on a public forum. But maybe if you start a trend, others might be inspired to follow suit?

well, here's what i've come up with. i did give some thought, CM, to whether i ought to be uneasy about having my pictures on a public forum, but couldn't come up with any reasoning as to why it's different to walking around on public streets in a public world where all sorts of internet users might be looking at, judging, secretly photographing and mis-using pictures of, my face, whether it's a good day or a bad day.

if you click on the image it will link to a larger version.

i must say, i had a few surprises looking back over these. not sure i completely understand what on earth my face has been doing over the years, lol.
2007 was the big year of me getting more and more down and pissed off with and confused by my face, which was looking less and less like anything that should be attached to my body.
i wish i had known about face exercising a year earlier, then maybe my 2007 wedding shots wouldn't make me feel like i was ruining some otherwise beautiful photos.
you can probably see from the january 2008 photos i gave my eyebrows an overhaul, which in itself had pretty good results. it's also in those two early 2008 photos that the asymmetry of my cheeks first really struck and shocked me. it doesn't seem so obvious at first but once you look for a bit it seems to get worse.

i began face exercises some time in january, and stopped taking photos of myself after that, because i just didn't want any discouragement to depress me. the may 2008 photos are from when my mum came to visit, and i was quite anxious about how they'd be. you can see if you look closely the difference between my eyes becoming more pronounced. very much a work-in-progress face there - but with the emphasis being on the word 'progress'; overall i was pleased with and relieved by these photos.

then there were no more photos until july. as you can see, i've started dreadlocks, which i'm documenting, so my face is getting monitored by default now. (http://dreadblog.amykristiansen.net/)i was also very relieved that it had started looking better by this time.

i have a very poor track record where self-esteem is concerned. as i mentioned in another post, i've had anorexia in the past. it's very refreshing to not automatically hate all pictures of myself and to feel hope of becoming happier.

those 2007 photos depressed me so much. age 27, i figured i had definitely peaked and was now heading downhill in terms of my looks, and the thought of facing that for many years to come was awful. and with my eyelids already down to the eye-lash line i thought i'd be half-blind by 40.

so, if i've been walking around looking as i did in some of these photos, then having them online too is hardly going to kill me, and hopefully the more recent photos offer some balance there anyway.

i shall be doing face exercises every day for the rest of my life. they have really turned things around for me this year.

Amy, your face is absolutely flawless! but, I know you have to believe that in your heart. I had a girlfriend years ago who was battling anorexia and she was able to pull thru with the help of family and friends. Now, you've discovered these exercises but more importantly(and I have my moments, we all do)truly love yourself.

Amy, I'm cheesing like a Cheshire cat because your eyes previously looked like mine used to before face exercises, and now they look like mine do thanks to face exercises! And as Tom R said, you're absolutely beautiful--model-esque even!

Indeed, keep up the good work.

And thanks for sharing. :-)

Newbie here!..Tom, in your opinion, does the flex away do as good a job as your mouth exercise??....Additionally, is it possible to raise the corners of the mouth??..to me, that is a BIG teller of age..Agree??

Chuck K:

I never used the Flexaway machine so I can't compare it to the non-machine mouth exercise that I do.

You asked, "is it possible to raise the corners of the mouth?"

In general, facial exercise will not change the essential shape of your features. If the corners of your mouth were not turned up when you were young, there is no reason to believe that the mouth exercise will do the job now.

What the mouth exercise does is to make the best out of what you were genetically endowed with. It will keep the muscles of the lower face toned up, keep excess fatty tissue from forming, and keep the skin from becoming loose and wrinkled. But on the last point there is controversy. Some people, including Paula Begoun and many cosmetic surgeons, believe that facial exercise is detrimental to the skin.
