I know that this question is too general, but how long does it usually take before some signs of progress become evident? I mean is it possible to see some improvement in muscle tone is say one month?

Just one more question. I am overweight. If I lose weight will this cause wrinkles in my face? Will the loss of weight cause my face to sink in?
Let me put this another way - will losing weight cause a depletion in the skins collagen? I've seen women who lose weight fast and their facial skin sometimes looks much older than before the weight loss.

Mildred, it is going to take a lot longer than you think to see improvement in your face by doing the facial exercises. It took me at least six months before I saw noticeable toning up of the muscles around my eyes and mouth.

I do not know about the weight loss issue. I would assume that if you lost weight slowly it would have a beneficial effect on your face, but if you went on crash diets, your face might look drawn.

I have been doing the mouth exercise for a little over one month. I have been doing this exercise for perhaps ten minutes each day. The area around my mouth feels a little tight and there is some feeling of slight pain in the facial muscles, even though this seems to be getting less. How long does it take before you feel absolutely no pain in the facial muscles. I mean if I keep at this for a year, and I fully intend to, will there still be a slight pain in my facial muscles after a strenuous facial workout?

Therese:

The slight pain you feel in the facial muscles while and after working these muscles is called "the burn" by bodybuilders. This muscle burn is caused by a mild nerve irritation. The nerve irritation is associated with an altered pH (a measure of acidity/alkalinity) within the muscle you're exercising.

This altered pH is caused by increased metabolic waste products building up in the muscles. Some think that one of the waste products is lactic acid. That's why the pain is sometimes referred to as the lactic acid burn.

After your muscles get used to your facial exercise program, there will be less retention of waste products in the muscles. This means that with time your facial muscles will feel no pain when you exercise them or after you exercise them.

Twice a day is OK but you don't need to spend over 10 to 15 minutes on these exercises in a session. Be sure to keep your face lubricated before doing the exercises. I splash water on my face but you may prefer to use an oil-based moisturizer.
